Keynote Presentation
Structural Lipidomics and POCT Mass Spectrometry
Zheng Ouyang
Professor, Precision Instrument at Tsinghua University
Dean, Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School
Abstract:
In this keynote speech, the history and current development plan of the Tsinghua University Shenzhen International Graduate School will be introduced, followed by a presentation of the research on mass spectrometry technologies for structural lipidomics and point-of-care testing. Understanding of human genome and proteome help to explain “what can happen” and “how to happen”, respectively, while lipidome can reflect “what is happening or has happened” in our biological systems. While mass spectrometry has become the mainstream platform for analyzing lipids, some major challenges remain for completely deciphering complex lipidomes. Recent advancements in instrumentation and analytical methods will be introduced here for characterizing detailed structures of lipids and the vision for future human lipidome project will be shared. Traditional mass spectrometry analysis system has also been miniaturized and potable system with significantly simplified operational procedures has been developed for point-of-care testing.
